Nanotech BC's Constitution Established Under the Society Act
1. The name of the Society is 'The British Columbia Nanotechnology Alliance' (the Society).
2. The purposes of the Society are to:
- Promote the advancement of globally recognized research, development and commercial activities related to nanotechnologies within the province of British Columbia;
- Promote the growth of the research community and the development of infrastructure and facilities applicable to nanotechnologies in British Columbia;
- Foster technology transfer, commercialization activities, networking and national and international partnerships among researchers, related organizations and industry both within and external to the province of British Columbia;
- Increase the awareness of British Columbia's nanotechnology activities among the public and stakeholders and communicate the strengths of British Columbia's nanotechnology activities to potential national and international markets;
- Educate and inform the public and governments through the organization of intellectual resources regarding ethical, environmental, legal and societal issues related to nanotechnology;
- Engage in activities, hold property, and enter into contractual and collaborative relationships with others (including the private and voluntary sectors and federal and provincial governments and agencies) in order to obtain and expand financial and personnel resources for the Society; and
- Perform all ancillary activities reasonably desirable to achieve the above purposes.
3. The activities and purposes of the Society shall be carried on without purpose of gain for the members and any income, profits or other accretions to the Society shall be used as and when determined by the directors of the Society in promoting the purposes of the Society. This paragraph is unalterable.
4. In the event of dissolution or winding up of the Society all its remaining assets, after payment of liabilities, shall be distributed in accordance with a resolution of the board of directors to one or more recognized charitable organizations in Canada, whose purposes and principles are of a similar nature to those to which this Society is dedicated.
